Merry Healthy Drink Challenge (CONTEST)

We’ve teamed up with MALK Organics, Ethical Table, et Whole Foods Market to host a healthy holiday drink challenge!

Why you should participate:

1. ‘Tis the season to believe in your elf. We’ve worked with talented local chef Mike Sonier of Ethical Table to come up with some festive beverages that are sure to impress your friends and family (recipes below).

2. You’ll end up saving some dough. Don’t get us wrong—sipping a gingerbread latte in a cozy café to the sound of Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas is a festive treat in itself. With that being said, once you stock up on a few key ingredients, you’ll be set to make yourself a gingerbread latte whenever you want… also to the sound of Mariah… but in your pyjamas.

3. You’ll know exactly what you’re drinking. Syrups, move aside; peppermint extract, maple syrup, ginger root, and cinnamon are here. Guilt-free holiday drink, here you come.

4. You can get everything you need from Whole Foods Market. The holidays are a busy time, and simplicity is key!

Inspired yet? Here’s how to enter: 

1. Make a plant-based festive drink at home that includes coffee and almond milk (5 bonus entries if you use @ethicalbean & @malkorganics—both found at @wholefoodsbc).

2. Post a photo of it on Instagram and tag @ethicalbean, @malkorganics, @ethicaltable, and @wholefoodsbc.

The prize: 

• 4 12oz whole bean bags of Ethical Bean’s espresso suave
• 4 bottles of MALK Organic’s unsweetened almond milk
• 1 Bodum french press

RECIPE 1: GINGERBREAD LATTE

Gear:

• 16oz mug (preferably holiday-themed)
• a french press (or whatever you usually use to brew)
• a blender (Vitamix works great)
• a milk frother (if you don’t have one, check out these 8 other frothing techniques)

Ingrédients:

• 2 tbsp Ethical Bean’s sweet espresso, ground
• 10oz filtered water
• 2 tsp cashew butter (sub almond or sunflower)
• 1/2 tsp fresh ginger root, peeled and finely grated
• 1/8 tsp cinnamon, ground
• 1/8 tsp nutmeg, ground
• 1/8 tsp cloves, ground
• 1 tbsp + 1 tsp pure maple syrup
• pinch of sea salt
• 1/3 cup MALK Organic’s unsweetened almond milk

Instructions:

1. Place ground Ethical Bean sweet espresso into french press. Cover with boiling water. Generously stir. Allow to steep for 6 minutes. (For any other brewing method, just remember that you want to end up with a 10oz cup of coffee.)

2. Place all spices, freshly grated ginger, nut butter, maple syrup, and sea salt into a high-speed blender, followed by brewed coffee.

3. Blend on high for 20 seconds. Pour into coffee mug.

4. Place cold MALK unsweetened almond milk into heating frother.

5. Pour the warmed frothed milk into your coffee mug. Gently stir and enjoy right away!

RECIPE 2: BEETROOT PEPPERMINT MOCHA

• 1/4 tsp peppermint extract
• 2 tsp dark chocolate chips
• 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
• pinch of sea salt
• 1/3 cup MALK Organic’s unsweetened almond milk

Instructions:

1. Place ground Ethical Bean sweet espresso into french press. Cover with boiling water. Generously stir. Allow to steep for 6 minutes. (For any other brewing method, just remember that you want to end up with a 10oz cup of coffee.)

2. Place beetroot powder, peppermint extract, cacao powder, chocolate chips, maple syrup, and sea salt into a high-speed blender, followed by brewed coffee.

5. Pour the warmed frothed milk into your coffee mug. Gently stir and enjoy right away!
